Midland Elementary in southwest Colorado Springs is an educational community that inspires students to be their best. Experienced educators foster a culture of cooperation and respect which promotes children's intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. Our tightly knit school community offers a world of educational opportunities - from arts and athletics to reading and robotics - ensuring all children reach their fullest potential. Midland offers all students a strong reading, writing, and mathematics foundation in a safe, nurturing environment.

We implement the Random Acts of Kindness Curriculum to support student social-emotional learning. We are also implementing Capturing Kids’ Hearts, a program of intentional acts to create a positive school culture.

We have a motto in our building, "Inspire others to do their best."

Midland History

Established in 1889, Midland Elementary is one of the oldest schools in District 11, originally built to serve a growing Colorado City during a time of economic expansion. The land was donated by city founder Anthony Bott, and strong partnerships with local businesses—like the Glassworks—helped keep education a community priority.

By 1902, Midland opened a larger school building under the leadership of Principal Augusta Kneipp, earning numerous awards. The school saw further updates in the 1920s, including the addition of electricity.

In 1956, the Midland Annex opened at the Broadway site. By 1970, all grades moved into the expanded Annex. While the original building now serves as office space, Midland's legacy as an educational institution remains strong—because a school is more than a building.
