Reading Team
Teaching and Learning Coach
Hello, I'm Katie Ackerman, the Teacher and Learning Coach at Midland Elementary. I have been teaching for 13 years, with 3 of those years spent at Midland Elementary. I am a proud product of The Colorado Springs District 11, having attended Bristol Elementary, Holmes Middle School, and Coronado High School. It brings me joy to serve the district I grew up in and still call home! I am delighted that my daughter is also a student at Midland Elementary!
Outside of school hours, I work as a reading tutor for an online tutoring company. In my free time, I find joy in reading, crocheting, gardening, kayaking, biking, and camping. My daughter's extracurricular activities also keep us busy. My husband, daughter and I have two dogs named Ivy and Maverick.
I am excited for another fantastic year at Midland! Go Mustangs!
Interventionists
Linda Meyer grew up in the state of Maryland. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees there. Initially, she worked in the computer industry doing technical support and training adults to use business applications. Then, after raising her two boys, she felt called to elementary education. Therefore, she completed the Teacher Education Licensing Program at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She fell in love with the Science of Reading and has been teaching reading ever since.
Michelle Wenger grew up in Colorado and loves the sunshine and mountains. She has three kids of her own and when she’s not at school or home with the kids you can find her hiking or trying out new restaurants with her husband and friends.
Michelle is a licensed teacher with a bachelor’s degree from CSU and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Colorado College. She is working to complete her training to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist. This is her 10th year working in education. She is passionate about helping each student reach their fullest potential.
Hi, my name is Dawnelle Wynia and this is my 6th year as a reading interventionist at Midland Elementary but my 11th year doing reading interventions in District Eleven. Previously I was the director of a grant funded after school program. Teaching reading is my passion which led me to go back to Colorado College in 2012 to get certified as a dyslexia therapist.
I have a Master's in Teaching and a Bachelor's in Psychology. I have two amazing kids aged 15 and 18 and have been married for 21 years. Hanging out with my family, working out, hiking, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite things to do during my free time. Thanks for sharing your kids with us here at Midland!!!
